Description
[John F. and Jacqueline Kennedy] Two Scalamandré Pillows. Two large pillows produced by the House of Scalamandré, who commissioned silk fabrics and trimmings for the White House during First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy's renovations. In 1961 the firm was contracted to provide material for interior designer, Sister Parish, who worked primarily redecorating the residential floor of the White House. As the restoration began to focus on the public rooms of the State Rooms, French interior designer, Stephané Boudin, was encouraged to use Scalamandré to recreate a complex silk lampas with an eagle and olive branch design for the upholstery of a suite of French Empire furniture originally acquired by James Madison for the Blue Room. These pillows came from an overstock found in the Scalamandré warehouse but were never used in the White House. The pillows have pale blue silk fronts bearing a large central eagle bordered by olive branches, blue and gold ribbons at the left and right sides and cord tassles. The backs of the pillows are covered in a soft buff, tan fabric. Dimensions of 20" x 20" x 7.5".
Condition: A few light surface scuffs and appear unused.
