Description
William Henry Harrison: Spectacular Log Cabin Brooch. Some of the most appealing of campaign badges are the sulphide and hand-colored brooches issued in the election of 1840. They are all nice, but some do merit special mention. This 1" x 1 ΒΌ" brooch happens to be our favorite. Note the dimension; this is by far the largest example of its type that we have seen. It consists of a hand-colored engraving under glass. It depicts the Harrison log cabin, Hard Cider barrel, a plow, an ax embedded in a log (shades of Abraham Lincoln, the "Rail Splitter"), two trees, an American flag inscribed "Harison Tyler [sic]," the candidate himself welcoming a disabled veteran to his humble abode, and a man paddling a canoe! Unbelievable! It lacks the pin attachment, but is otherwise quite nice. Doubtless a play on " Old Tippecanoe."Auction Info
