Description
Millard Fillmore: A Pristine Campaign Ribbon for the 1856 Know Nothing Candidate. Elected as the Whig Vice President in 1848, Fillmore ascended to the presidency on the death of Zachary Taylor two years later. Passed over by his party in 1852, he surfaced again in the chaotic politics of 1856 as a Nativist Candidate. Fremont, representing the newly born Republican Party, and Fillmore were unable to overcome the Democrats' solid south, electing Buchanan. This ribbon is of gorgeous blue silk, and is in absolutely mint condition. 2.5" x 7.125".Auction Info
