Description

Lincoln & Johnson: Extremely Rare Red, White, and Blue 1864 Jugate Campaign Ribbon. Colorful design, jugate composition, and profound rarity combine to make this the most valuable of all Lincoln ribbon varieties, and one of the very most valuable of all political ribbons. We are aware of but three other examples, one of which is badly stained, in addition to this newly discovered copy. It is printed on a rather loosely woven cotton fabric, rather than the familiar silk. The ribbon has been trimmed on all four sides: no design element is compromised, but the lack of the wide margins, particularly at the top and bottom is a not inconsequential factor. However, it is otherwise in exceptional condition. The fabric retains its original crispness in the very light horizontal crease is barely detectable. There is a little, very light water staining on the reverse, which has just barely bled through to the front. Overall, other than the trimming, we would describe the condition as excellent. With the exception of one unique example of a diminutive variety, this is the only known variety of jugate ribbon for this tough ticket. Serious Lincoln and ribbon collectors, while taking the effect on the value into consideration, would be well advised not to miss this special opportunity. 2.5" x 5.5".
