Description

Lincoln & Hamlin: Best Jugate Ribbon. Of the approximately seven different designs known of Lincoln & Hamlin jugate ribbons, this is our favorite. The portraits are large with a folk art quality to them (even the first "n" in "Lincoln" is backwards!). There are two side-by-side designs known and the portraits on those are small. This design uses several different type fonts, broadside-style, with two slogans, including the slavery-related "Lincoln, Hamlin and Liberty." We are aware of two examples on red silk and this one in white. It was featured as a cover lot in the sale of the Don Warner Collection over thirty years ago and has stayed in the same collection ever since. It is mounted along the top and bottom to a sheet of paper, likely part of an old album. There is a faint horizontal fold line and two ink stains, as shown. That said, it has a minty appearance with all the original sheen.
