John Quincy Adams: Rare Pewter Rim Mirror. JQA-1828-3, 65mm, pewter. Few categories of political collectibles are more sought-after and valued than these small plaques made for most prominent political figures from the second quarter of the nineteenth century. Some, like this one, come with a mirror on verso, although other varieties carried a portrait of the Vice President or running mate. Also offered in this sale is a pewter rimmed mirror of William Henry Harrison.In this pewter rim series, the ultimate prize is this John Quincy Adams variety. It matches a Jackson, of which several are known, but this is one of only two known for Adams. The obverse of this mirror features John Quincy Adams on paper, his name appearing above his head. Some minor staining to paper with expected wear and patina to pewter. The mirror at the back is broken, but two large pieces remain. Suspension loop not present. Overall, great condition. This may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the advanced collector to obtain one of the iconic objects in the genre of political campaign memorabilia. No minimum bid.
