Description

James K. Polk: Pewter-Rim Medallion. The 1844 Democratic nominees appear on either side of this 2 1/2" medallion or lapel badge. This one is quite unusual by virtue of the concentric, circular mirror border on the Polk portrait which matches a Clay piece. For this reason alone, we consider this the best of the Polk pewter-rims. It is really quite handsome! The original loop fell off and a makeshift loop fashioned by piercing the top edge of the frame. This was likely done at the time as there are remnants of a green ribbon. The condition is excellent.
