Description

Bryan and Sewall et al: Pair of 1896 Elaborate Jugate Ribbon Badges From Michigan. Measuring approximately 2 1/2" x 8". These colorful and impressive campaign ribbons feature jugate celluloid portraits of the Democratic and Republican presidential and vice-presidential nominees of 1896. The ribbons boldly proclaim the opposing party platforms: "Free Silver, No Compromise" for Bryan and Sewall, and "Protection, Reciprocity, Sound Money" for McKinley and Hobart - offering Michigan voters a vivid visual summary of their political choice that year.

Condition: Each ribbon retains its original celluloid top bar with the candidates' names, framed in silver or gold to match party colors. The Bryan/Sewall badge shows light age toning, moderate wear to the silver lettering, and a few minor edge tears (mentioned for accuracy). The McKinley/Hobart badge remains very fine, bright, and well preserved.
