Description
White House Presidential Flag: Circa 1960-1965. Large Presidential Seal flag, measuring 4' 4" x 5' 6", made of a blue material resembling rayon with silver & gold metallic fringe sewn to three sides. The design is embroidered silk and appears on both sides. There are soft grey leather loops hidden within the sleeve at either end, one of which reads: "Inspected By Phila. Quartermaster Depot Job 6279 Presid., Ryn. 4' 4" x 5' 6" Item 4 12-19 ". According to our research, this flag was made by the P.Q.M.D. which identifies it as dating between July 4,1960 when the 50 stars variant became official and 1965, when their name was changed and they became the "Defense Personnel Support Center", changing the markings on the flags as well. It therefore saw use in the administration[s] of Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy or Lyndon Johnson. The consignor obtained it from a friend who worked at Camp David where it had been in use until replaced. No doubt, it saw use at the White House, as well. Accompanied by the two original red, white and blue flag cords with tassels. All items are in excellent condition with slight, normal wear.Auction Info
