Description

Thomas Jefferson Owned Steel and Brass Compass. This delicate brass and steel compass measures just over 3" in length. Fine details include two sets of parallel engraved lines on the handle, a small screw with flourished edges on the pincer arm and exposed steel at the bottom of both needle and hold arms. Most impressive about this compass is that both the joint and screw move fluidly and the needle has retained its sharp point. The small size of the implement, without units of measurement, speaks to an application of creative and detailed designs.
