Description
Rutherford B. Hayes: Official White House China. 9" hand-painted dessert or fruit dish in the "Studio" pattern. Signed by the artist Theodore R. Davis with the letter "D". The back side has the Presidential Seal, artist's name, the patent date (August 10, 1880) and the maker's mark (Havilland & Co.). It depicts the beach-front studio in Asbury Park, New Jersey where the artist painted his designs. Similar to examples shown on plate no. 51 in Klapthor's reference book. Excellent.Auction Info
