Description
Lyndon B. Johnson: Civil Rights Act Bill Signing Pen and More. 21" x 14" framed "shadow box" presentation that includes three components: printed copy of H. R. 7152 ("Civil Rights Act of 1964. Title 1. Voting Rights"), an original photograph of LBJ signing the law and one of the actual steel nib pens used in the signing, inscribed "The President - The White House". It is accompanied by a 9.5" x 12" shadow box frame with Hubert Humphrey letter dated July 5, 1964, addressed to Miss Francis Henderson (c/o Senator Clifford Case) thanking her for playing an essential role in the legislative battle "for human dignity and freedom in America." A souvenir ballpoint pen is attached to the letter. The pen is inscribed: "In appreciation of Your Help in Passing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 Leadership Conference on Civil Rights July 2, 1964". Though a Republican, Clifford Case voted for all civil rights legislation, including the confirmation of Thurgood Marshall for a seat on the Supreme Court. We believe he appears in the signing photo at the far left.Auction Info
