Description

Gerald Ford: Presentation Silver Tray by Tiffany. 14" x 10" heavy silver tray with engraved presentation inscription to "The President and Mrs. Ford" from Areleshu Zahedi, dated January 1977. Mr. Zahedi was the Iranian Ambassador to the United States and evidently held the Ford's in the highest regard, evidenced by his twelve-line laudatory paean to the First Couple. This was apparently a personal gift and not one from the government of Iran which would soon orchestrate the hostage crisis at the U. S. Embassy in Tehran. He closes with: "A thousand hurrays and best wishes for happiness and success to a couple for all seasons..." The monogram at top, BFG, no doubt signifies Betty and Gerald Ford. It is stamped on the back "Tiffany & Co. Makers. Sterling Silver 25055." Proceeds of this auction will be used for the new Student Learning Center being developed by the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation. This lot will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity signed by Steve Ford.
