Franklin D. Roosevelt: Personally-Owned Cocktail Shaker. 13 1/2" brass or copper cocktail shaker engraved on the front: "To President Roosevelt From Homer Cummings Christmas-1938 Parvum Non Parvae Amicitiae Pignus". It is stamped on the bottom "Dirilyte". The inscription roughly translates to: "A small token, but a token of no small friendship". Cummings was Attorney General in FDR's Cabinet. He gave the President nine plates and this cocktail shaker. They were sold, along with other personal possessions of the President, at Hammer Galleries in New York City November 12-December 3, 1951. Newspaper clippings, a copy of the 1951 catalog and a transcript of the "Inventory Taken At Top Hill Cottage, May 5, 1945" that lists the shaker accompanies the lot.
