Description
Antique Ottoman Empire Silver Box with a Painted Portrait of a Bearded Nobleman, Benefiting Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. The oval box, 2-inches by 2.5-inches, is topped by a painted portrait under glass. The sides of the box are covered in twisted silver wire and filigree. The bottom is marked "950". The box was obtained by the Johnsons on the official vice presidential visit to Turkey in 1962. This lot will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity signed by Lynda Johnson Robb.A full 100% of the net proceeds will benefit the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center at the University of Texas at Austin, in honor of the 2012 Centennial of Lady Bird Johnson's birth.
