    Description
Abraham Lincoln: Assassination Relics. Souvenirs obtained in the wake of President Lincoln's assassination at Ford's Theatre. Includes a 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" piece of flocked red velvet wallpaper attached with sealing wax to a note reading "Paper from wall of private box when Prest. Lincoln was killed", a small envelope that contained the relic, plus a 5" chunk of wood with a long nail running through it, inscribed at top: "Floor of Private Box of Ford's Theatre where Prest. Lincoln was killed." The archive also has a Civil War-era postal used envelope addressed to Henry Cook in Philadelphia which likely was used to send the wallpaper fragment plus a circa 1920 registered envelope which was likely used to send both relics to a Mr. Julian Huet of Philadelphia. The Presidential Box wallpaper is seldom seen while the piece of wooden flooring is a first for us! These are "silent witnesses" to one of the seminal events in American history.Auction Info
