Description

Temperance Movement: An Outstanding, Large Early Broadside. Dating from approximately 1832, this 14" x 19" broadside has terrific content and graphic appeal. The subject matter is English-but it was republished in New York by A. V. Blake for sale here. It lays out the argument that drinking lead to fighting, ill treatment, imprisonment, beggary, accidents, et cetera. Lord Chancellor Broughm's speech before Parliament is cited: "I attribute the atrocities committed by lower orders to the consumption of Ardent Spirits." (!) Excellent condition with only a little minor light aging, and definitely a fun conversation piece. Expensively custom-framed to 22.5" x 26.5".
