Description

Scott & Graham: Jugate Club Membership Certificate and More. This unbelievable presentation features two items. We'll save the best for last. The first item is a small folio hand-colored lithograph [13" x 16.5"] published by Nathaniel Currier in 1852, titled "Winfield Scott. Whig Candidate For Fourteenth President of the United States." Faint sunning, unusually wide borders with vibrant colors. The other item is an 11.5" x 15" lithograph printed in black & tan, titled "Whig Principles Whig Measures and Whig Presidents." It features jugate portraits of the last presidential ticket fielded by the Whig Party. It is a membership certificate for William Buttre in the Scott and Graham Club of the 2nd Ward of the City of New York. The bottom has a vignette of the "Storming of Chapultepec." Printed by A. Robinson of New York and published by D. E. Gavit. A few small border tears. Hinged at top and matted alongside the Currier print. We consider the certificate as the premier piece of Scott campaign ephemera. No minimum bid. From the J.Doyle Dewitt Collection.
