Description

Henry Clay: 1832 Newspaper Broadside. 16" x 21" November 9, 1832 issue of the "Salem Gazette". The front page contains a Clay & Sergeant broadside titled "National Republican Nominations". The name Clay is made up of a doggerel which repeats the toast "Here's a Health to old Uncle Sam". It concludes with a timely quote: "Where servile homage to any man, whether Prince or Emperor, King or President, is the standard of merit or the means of success, there is the grave of Republican FREEDOM!" Should look nice matted and framed.

Condition: Normal aging and folds with a section missing along the right side.
