Description

George Washington: Large Colored Engraving. "Washington" appears in military uniform with various accoutrements of war and his white charger. We suspect the scene is supposed to represent Washington's daring escape from certain capture by the British at the Battle of Brooklyn Heights. It was copied after an 1836 painting by Cogniet and an 1839 engraving by Laugier. This 25" x 31" version was published by Fishel, Adler and Schwartz Company of New York. It has been mounted to a thick board and is in very nice condition.
