Description

Abraham Lincoln: Important Assassination Broadside Extra. 6 1/4" x 12" extra issued, we believe, by the Springfield [IL] State Journal, dated April 15, 1865. The headlines read: "Horror Horror/ Most Dreadful News/ Assassination/ Pres. Lincoln Shot./ He Died This Morning/ Seward Stabbed/ He Died This Forenoon/ His Two Sons Badly Hurt." Extra concludes with a dispatch from Chicago erroneously reporting on the death of Seward, which was not the case. These broadside extra's are highly sought after by collectors.

Condition: Flattened folds, scattered pinholes at top and bottom margins. Minor loss to top right corner. Small stain on verso. Arguably the most desirable of assassination extras, being from Lincoln's hometown.
