Description

"Uncle Sam Sick With LA Grippe" Cartoon. Uncle Sam is portrayed as sickly and resting. Around him are Andrew Jackson (imitating Benjamin Franklin), Thomas Hart Benton, and Martin Van Buren as "Aunty Matty." Nicholas Biddle can be seen outside the window, and an eagle states, "I must fly to Texas for I shall be starved out here." Note Washington in pieces, his head having fallen from the column reading, "Pater Patriæ." Measures 18.625" x 13.5".

Condition: Adhered to a thick paper board. Toning throughout, with minor staining. Pinholes at the top two corners and loss at the bottom corners. Top left corner appears to have separated before being affixed to the board. Some tearing to the cartoon is along the edges. Adhesive residue is at the back of the board. The cartoon's image remains bold.
