Description

Woman's Suffrage: Six "Captain" Buttons and 1915 "Vote Yes Nov. 2" Pinback. Found among a large archive of suffrage paper, being sold elsewhere in this sale, here we have a lot of 7 suffrage buttons. Six of these are most unusual 1/2" pins inscribed, "Captain". These have back papers from Whitehead and Hoag Co. Newark, NJ. Also included is a 7/8" "Vote Yes Nov. 2" pinback with "Bainbridge Badges & Buttons (Syracuse) back paper. These came altogether in an old envelope with "Captain Buttons" handwritten in pencil on one side. Given this, we can reasonably presume they relate to the 1915 New York referendum. Possibly worn in the October 23, 1915 Women's March for Suffrage in New York City where over 25,000 women marched up 5th Avenue to advocate for the cause.

Condition: The "Captain" pins are in excellent condition. The 7/8" "Vote Yes" has some faint moisture marks mostly confined to the perimeter.
