Description

Woman's Suffrage: Elizabeth Cady Stanton Harlem Equal Rights League Pinback. 1¼" with a Whitehead & Hoag, Newark, New Jersey backmark. This rare button is one that all suffrage collectors know about but almost no one has. The fact that it was issued by the Harlem Equal Rights League throws off some collectors who assume that it was issued by an African-American organization. It was not. The Harlem Equal Rights League was organized by white women very early in the century prior to the mass migration of Blacks to the area before, during, and following WWI. In pristine condition, this is definitely one of the top five suffrage pins on anyone's list.
