Description

William Jennings Bryan: "Tree of Life" Button. Intriguing 7/8" novelty button from 1908 depicting Bryan, a healthy tree and an uprooted, dying tree. Inscribed: "For President Wm. J. Bryan 1908 The Tree Which Does Not Bear Good Fruit Shall Be Dug Out and Cast Into the Fire". Charles K. Cohn of Milwaukee back paper. This is the smaller size of two versions and is in excellent condition and hard to find so. The quotation is somewhat ironic since Bryan lost three presidential elections and could be considered a "tree which does not bear good fruit". Be careful what you wish for - you might get it!
