Description

TERRIFIC 1972 MCGOVERN-EAGLETON BUTTON COLLECTION. Eagleton, of course, was bumped from the ticket after disclosures that he had been treated for a mental disorder, and was replaced by Sargent Shriver for the general election (not that it mattered much; either ticket would lose to Nixon in a landslide). McGovern-Eagleton buttons are spurned by some collectors because they were primarily issued as novelties or to satisfy collector demand in the months following his withdrawal. But, more and more, they have come to be accepted as illustrating a remarkable and unique chapter in our political history. Here we have a great collection of approximately 55 different varieties, 7/8", to 3 ½" size (all shown to scale. A number of unusual types (we have never seen the red-bordered jugate in the center). All in Excellent shape. (# This item may require additional shipping charges).
