Description

Silas Wright: 1844 New York Governor Ribbon. This 3" x 6 ΒΌ" silk ribbon depicts Silas Wright, the successful Democratic candidate for Governor of New York in 1844. It is the only example of an antebellum "local" ribbon we have ever seen. Gubernatorial and Congressional candidates were sometimes mentioned in conjunction with presidential candidates, but stand-alone items are indeed rare.
