Description

Parker & Davis: Fantastic Advertising Classic. In 1904, the Fairbanks Scale Company saw an opportunity to promote its product, given that the Republican Vice-Presidential nominee was Charles W. Fairbanks. Not wishing to alienate their Democratic customers, they produced buttons favoring both Theodore Roosevelt and his opponent Alton Brooks Parker. This is the Parker version. Titled "Parker and Davis", it shows Parker outweighing TR on a Fairbanks balance beam scale, superimposed on the Capitol Dome. The Democratic rooster, seeing the result, declares "Judge! We're 'It'". This imagery harkens back to the early 19th century nostrum "Weighed in the Balance and Found Wanting." The button has a Baltimore Badge back paper and is in mint, unimprovable condition. We'll "weigh in" on this one by saying "This is a gotta have item!"
