Description

Harry S Truman: Important "Truman Civil Rights" Button. The Democratic Party's position on civil rights prompted a walk-out at the Democratic National Convention and the fielding of the States' Rights ticket of Thurmond & Wright. Truman also signed an executive order banning segregation in the military, only after pressure of picketing of the 1948 DNC by A. Payton Randolph. This 2" celluloid badge by St. Louis Button Company says it simply: "Truman Civil Rights". This is a very clean example and a key Truman item.
