Description

Franklin D. Roosevelt & John L. Lewis: A Terrific Anti-FDR 1 ¼-inch Slogan Button we Have Not Encountered Previously. John L. Lewis, head of the United Mine Workers union, was among the most powerful and controversial figures in the politics of the 1930s and 40s. A hero to union men across the country, he was equally despised by those who considered the New Deal to signal the end of Western Civilization. This clever button was clearly aimed at the latter group, suggesting that FDR had foisted Lewis on the American people. A highly important button for FDR specialists and collectors of labor movement items alike. From the Merrill C. Berman Collection.
