Description

Eugene V. Debs: The Rarest Style of 1920 "Convict" Button. Issued for his fifth try as the Socialist candidate for president, Debs was forced to campaign from his prison cell, where he had landed as a result of his anti-war speeches. The more familiar varieties depict him in prison garb in front of bars, but for the knowledgeable collector, this is the key variety. The convict number is associated with his first imprisonment. It changed when he was transferred to the Atlanta Penitentiary. Measuring 1" and in excellent condition.
