Description

Cox & Roosevelt: The Iconic Jugate Button Rarity from the 1920 Campaign. For collectors of pinback buttons, the Cox & Roosevelt jugate is the "Holy Grail." While six designs were produced by different manufacturers, only a total of fewer than fifty examples have been found of all varieties combined. It is widely presumed that all of these were manufacturers' samples which were never ordered in quantity. The present example is a design made by the Whitehead and Hoag Company in three sizes: 5/8", 7/8", and 1¼". Most were in the 7/8" size, with only five copies known in the diminutive 5/8" size offered here. The most recent Cox & Roosevelt handled by Heritage was a 7/8" example of this same design, which sold for $30,000 in our 2007 fixed-price holiday catalog. The example offered here is in choice condition and was long recognized by hobbyists as the "crown jewel" of the Geary Vlk Collection.
