Cox & Roosevelt: "Eagle With Rays" St. Louis Button Company Jugate. Widely regarded as the most visually striking and sought-after of the various Cox-Roosevelt designs, this 7/8" jugate button stands at the pinnacle of campaign button artistry during the 1920's when lack of flair and simple imagery were the norm. With its bold graphics and exceptional eye appeal, this elusive design has long been considered a top selection for advanced collectors.We are privileged to offer this particular example, fresh to market after being tucked away in a private collection for over three decades. Acquired in the mid-1980's, this button along with several other iconic rarities featured in this auction, hails from a single, extraordinary collection assembled by a longtime APIC member over many years of discerning acquisition.
Condition: Although the button has edge staining, it is confined to the lower rim from 5 to 8 o'clock. The surface retains a strong original gloss and the background is crisp and bright white against contrasting portraits which are sharp with fine detail, completely unaffected by this issue. There are two very small celluloid splits and a small crimping defect, mentioned for accuracy only. The button is well-centered, visually appealing and presents beautifully in person. It looks even better than the catalog photo!
