Benjamin Gitlow: 1925 Communist Party Pinback For Mayor of NYC. 15/16" lithograph pinback with Green Duck Co. imprint on verso. Gitlow's political career was defined not only by his campaigns but also by his role as a prominent advocate for free speech and revolutionary ideas. In 1919, he was convicted under the Espionage Act and sentenced to prison for publishing "The Left Wing Manifesto," a document advocating for proletarian revolution. This button, tied to his 1925 New York City mayoral campaign is inscribed, "Workers Party For Mayor Gitlow Election Campaign." It features a central oval portrait with name below which is flanked by the date 1925 and the Communist logo.
