Description
James K. Polk: Dessert Plate. This 9" hard paste porcelain plate was used in the James Polk White House and, befitting its lineage, is exceptionally lovely. The border is colored pale green with gold highlights. There is a hand-painted American shield with scroll inscribed "E Pluribus Unum". The central portion has hand-painted purple irises. The mark is marked "Ed. Honore/ Boul'd. Poissonierre No. 6/ A Paris/ Manufacture/ Champroux Allier/ No./ Prix." The condition is outstanding. White House china is highly sought-after and this is a beautiful example. We can imagine seeing the venerable Dolley Madison, a friend of the Polk's, using it during one of her visits.Auction Info
