Description

Abraham Lincoln: Tomb Photograph Presentation.
Stunning 20" x 28" framed presentation of images taken at Oakridge Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois. Both albumen images, which measure 9" x 10 1/2" overall each, have F.W. Igmire, Springfield, Il. imprints. The first image pictures the outside of the tomb with soldiers standing at attention, and are likely the funeral Honor Guard. The second image pictures the inside of the tomb with the caskets of the President and his young son Willie. The President's son died in Washington, DC on February 20, 1862. After the assassination of the President the family decided to bury Willie with his father in Springfield. Included in the presentation is a CDV of Lt. Colonel Albert Edwards and Colonel Henry Morrow who both served with the 24th Michigan Infantry. Edwards was in the Honor Guard, as were others from the 24th, and is likely one of the soldiers in the group. The leaf was taken from the floral arrangement at Lincoln's Springfield funeral by Edwards. Photographs of the inside and outside of the tomb do appear on the market from time to time, but never in this large format, and should be considered great rarities. In overall excellent condition.
