Description

Martin Van Buren: Five Miniatures Display. Martin Van Buren is the central figure on this intriguing wall hanging. There are five miniatures on ivory of Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison and Van Buren mounted on a velvet field with an oval, filigree, brass frame. Each portrait is signed by a different artist. The Van Buren is signed "D. Afares". The material was originally a turquoise color. The plush component has worn off completely on the front, while some of it remains on the back side... also covered in cloth. Done in the French taste, we suspect it was produced in a European workshop for export to America, likely during Van Buren's Presidency. A previous example of this item sold for $10,127 in May of 2010. There is a loop at the top for hanging.
