Description

John C. Breckinridge: Wonderful Campaign Flag Banner. Awesome 24" x 16.5" cotton banner printed in red, blue and brown. It shows an eagle clutching a shield with a riband in its beak reading "Breckinridge and Lane." Three of the stars are covered in red or aqua felt. Nail holes along the hoist indicate this was used as a parade flag. Mounted to a linen support material and loosely affixed to a cloth-covered wooden stretcher frame. Scattered staining with some areas of loss and a 5.5" vertical tear along the right side. Breckinridge material is the rarest of the four candidates from 1860. This certainly ranks among the top five Breckinridge items extant. It is truly impressive!! No minimum bid. From the J.Doyle Dewitt Collection.
