Description
John Bell: Unique Large Cloth Electoral Ticket Broadside. 9" x 21" linen ballot from Pennsylvania, titled "Constitutional Union Electoral Ticket." It promotes the Bell & Everett candidacy. A similar peice was produced for Fillmore & Donelson (rather ubiquitous) and one example is known for Lincoln & Hamlin. This, like the Lincoln, is unique. Obviously, it was not meant to be deposited in a ballot box. Rather, it was likely posted in a conspicuous location to inform potential voters of the names of authorized presidential electors. Some stains, as shown. Affixed on verso with masking tape to a thin paper mat. We think the tape could be removed fairly easily, as it's been on there a long time.Auction Info
