Description
John Adams: Liverpool Punch Bowl. 10" diameter punch bowl. The interior of the bowl has a transfer of "John Adams, President of the United States of America." Adams is surrounded by Goddesses of Prosperity and Justice, beneath a cherub holding a Liberty cap. The exterior of the bowl includes transfers of Benjamin Franklin wearing a fur hat and a pre-presidential portrait of "His Excellency General Washington Commander in Chief of the Forces of the United States of America & President of the Congress." The transfers of Washington and Franklin are excellent. There is restoration to the arm of Neptune/Poseidon on one of the side transfers. There are scattered scratches and wear to the Adams transfer, as well as wear to the glaze in that area of the bowl which would have seen the most contact with utensils. Still, it is quite presentable. Punch bowls are considered one of the more desirable forms of Liverpool historical cream ware and the combination of subjects makes this one special.Auction Info
