Description

John Adams and James Madison: Important Founding Fathers Tea Caddy. 6.25" tall soft paste cylindrical tea caddy featuring a portrait of "John Adams" on one side and "James Madison" on the other, along with the sentiment "Kindly Take This Gift of Mine/ Full of Love For Thee and Thine," all against a powder blue background. A checkerboard design appears at the base of the shoulder. Likely issued circa 1796-1800, but possibly earlier. A "signature" piece of the DeWitt Collection which, as far as we know, is the sole surviving example.

Condition: Some chipping to base and collar. The lid has extensive chipping and was split in two pieces at one time, but neatly glued back together. These defects, given their location, are not significant, only adding character to the artifact.
