Lincoln & Johnson: 1865 Inauguration Ceremonies Admittance Card. A 3.5" x 2.25" engraved "ticket" on card stock, inscribed "1865. Inauguration Day, March 4." Signed by the Sergeant-at-Arms of the U. S. Senate, George T. Brown, and made out to "Admit one" (this came from an album assembled by the daughter of Vermont Senator Solomon Foot). People fortunate enough to obtain this ticket were able to stand on the same level as the President and hear him deliver his glorious Second Inaugural Address. The day started out overcast and rainy, but the sun broke through in time for the speech. Among those in attendance that day were Lewis Payne and the assassin John Wilkes Booth. Only a precious few of this ticket are known. Heritage sold an example in the Lattimer Collection and another one in our May 2010 auction. Minor vertical crease on the right side and paper & glue residue on the reverse from previous mounting in an album.
