Description
George Washington: "GW in Oval" Inaugural Button. Albert WI-11d, 28 mm, gilt brass, original shank. Albert indicates this design and a slightly larger version have been known since 1920 and are "believed to be non-contemporary." The pattern of wear is consistent with a 1789 dating, in our opinion and, at this point, we can see no evidence to think otherwise. From the Donald G. Partrick Collection.Auction Info
