Description

Grant albumen on painted shield, USG-1868-43. This is one of the more ornate badges issued from the election of 1868. It consists of an albumen photograph of Grant mounted on a brass shield, hand-painted in red and blue, suspended from an eagle hanger. There is a tiny piece of albumen missing from the left side, as shown, and some paper loss just above Grant's ear, which is practically imperceptible. The overall appearance is quite pleasing.
