    Description

Abraham Lincoln: Washington "Chronicle" Assassination Archive. Although many collectors seek copies of the New York dailies that announced Lincoln's assassination and the news events that followed, not enough importance is placed on editions of the paper issued in the city where Lincoln was killed, the nation's capital. We offer eight copies of the "Chronicle" from this period. They include a Second Edition from the morning of April 15, 1865, announcing the assassination and death of the President, a follow-up edition for April 16th, another for Monday April 17th, a copy for April 19th (front page only), a copy for April 20th with woodcut portrait of Lincoln, the May 18th edition on the "Trial of the Assassins", a June 15th edition with more details of the trial, and a June 29th edition with more trial coverage. These are seldom offered.
