Description

Zachary Taylor: "Forget Me Not" Box. The 1848 Whig candidate, "Taylor", appears in full color on this glass and paper patch box of French manufacture. It measures 1 3/4" x 2 3/4" x 1/2". Unlike most examples, the lid is still firmly attached. It opens to reveal a compartment for cosmetic cheek patches and a mirror to make sure the wearer did not put the patch in the wrong spot. The spine has been replaced at some time in the past with a textured gold paper. The embossed, gold foil, paper edges are designed to give the appearance of a book.
