Description
William Henry Harrison: Museum Piece Silk Bandanna. This may be the best designed Harrison bandanna of 1840. New Jersey antiquarian Leonard Balish had one forty years ago at the Coliseum show and we have yet to see another. It measures 28 1/2" x 24 1/2" and is made of silk. The borders have a series of cider barrels and drinking mugs with the slogan "Harrison and Reform". The extreme outer border has a repeat of the slogan "W. H. Harrison Hero of Tippecanoe". The central vignette shows the Harrison log cabin, his palatial farmhouse, the candidate himself and two veterans who have come for a visit and a drink of hard cider. A lengthy caption aptly describes the unfolding scene. There are embroidered initials of the owner (W.H.I.) in the upper right. There are minor tape stains around the perimeter and some minor loss/holes in three of the corners. The colors are vibrant and the overall condition is superb. This is the Hake book plate specimen.Auction Info
