Description
Rutherford B. Hayes: White House China After-Dinner Set of Six Cups and Saucers with Presentation Case. A rare and delicate after-dinner set comprising six matching cups and saucers in Haviland's elegant "Bamboo" pattern. Each piece is fashioned from exceptionally thin, translucent porcelain reminiscent of Belleek ware, with a refined, almost ethereal quality. The set is housed in its original fitted presentation case, lined in rich burgundy velvet. The inside lid bears a gilt-stamped inscription reading: "Haviland & Co., Limoges / Paris 1873 / Patented, U.S. Dec. 10, 1870." The cups measure 2 inches in diameter, and the saucers 4¾ inches. The handsome wooden case, covered in textured faux leather, measures 16½ x 10¾ x 4 inches.Condition: The case shows light, expected wear from age and handling, including minor loss of paper covering on the right side of the top lid, yet remains in extremely fine condition overall. The porcelain pieces themselves are pristine, each cup and saucer is in superb, near-mint condition.
