Description

John Bell: Tin & Glass Parade Lantern. Four-sided lantern, each side measuring 5" x 7 1/4". Three of the sides have cut-outs in the shape of a bell, backed by red, white and blue glass panels. The fourth panel has a cut-out with Roman numerals reading "XI", for the 11th ward (likely Boston). The lantern is attached to the mounting bracket by a gimbal arrangement which allows it to swing freely. The overall length is 66". It has a replacement twin-wick whale oil burner.
