Description

John Adams: Rare Liverpool Creamware Bowl Picturing Him as "President of the United States." Among the various early presidents pictured on Liverpool pottery, John Adams is the rarest, and the bowl form is much scarcer than the familiar pitchers. This example has three other transfers around the side: Franklin, a Revolutionary War officer, and George Washington (rare transfer identifying him as "Commander in Chief of the Forces of the United States of America and President of the Congress). Popular transfers were often held over for use in later years, as was clearly the case with this Washington image. In the bottom of the bowl is a full-color sailing ship flying an American flag, with the initials "C.D.," indicating that the bowl was a custom order from someone with those initials.

Display appearance is near-mint, although the consignor discloses that there has been some professional restoration. The color is a somewhat deeper cream than typically seen on such pieces. Diameter 10.625", height 4.25".
